The 14C-labelled pyrethroids were synthesized and the wash-off technioque was employed to investigate their rates of penetration through the cuticle of the armyworm, Pseudaletia separata WALKER, at two dose levels, 0.23 μg/insect and the LD95 doses of the insecticides. No distinct relationships between toxicities and penetration rates nor between toxicities and excretion rates were obtained. All the synthetic pyrethroids tested showed a biphasic or a multi-phasic penetration behaviour.
