Eighteen synthetic analogs of the juvcnile hormone (JH) including 16 novel compounds with different alkyl substituents at C-7 and C-11 were orally administrated to fifth instar larvar of the silkworm, Bombyx mori. Most analogs tested, inducing the delay in maturing, brought on increases in the weight of matured larvae and cocoon layer. Two trienoic esters with a n-butyl group at C-11, one having a methyl group and the other having an ethylgroup at C-7, showed the greatest activity, which was about 100 times that of the natural type C18-JH.
