Abstract

This paper attempts to clarify multi-layered aspects of urban space in central Tokyo from the point of view of complexity of spaces surrounding station buildings. Initially, the characteristic mode and conditions of teritories of multi-layered space surrounding station buildings are determined by collating the sectional construction of viewpoints on it. Secondly, the characters of multi-layered spaces are categorized in terms of models determinded by forms of networks and modes of teritories.
Finally, one paradigm and two fundamental modes were isolated by deploying the above-mentioned data, which may be said to represent one aspect of the urban form of contemporary Tokyo.
