Abstract

The aim of this research is to clarify the transition through multiple generations of the characteristics of typical buildings in Zushi City in the Shonan region. Firstly, the history of the coastal area of Zushi will be clarified as it transitioned, from the Meiji period to World WarⅡ, into a holiday-housing area with typical types of buildings fulfilling that purpose. Secondly, its transition into a residential area will be described using the classification of characteristics of buildings of each generation. Finally, the building generations and the typology of their characteristics throughout the area’s transition will be clarified.
