Abstract

This paper examines what kind of space and design composition the Fukuoka Domain Machichaya had, using floor plan drawings. First, this paper compared the drawings with the “Ochayakakitome” and criticizes the historical materials. Next, this paper compared and examined the spatial composition and design composition of the Uchino and Hakozaki Machichaya based on the drawings, and compared them to understand their architectural characteristics. This paper compared the spatial and design composition of Fukuoka Domain Ochaya, and further compare it with Honjin to clarify the architectural characteristics of Machichaya.
