Abstract
This paper is part of my research series on site planning technique by Sir Raymond Unwin (1863-1940). It attempts to analyze how he contributed greatly to the firm establishment of planning concept of HOUSING GROUP, and that he got this hint of the concept from the life and spatial composition in the villages. It is pointed out in the first chapter that Unwin theory is composed of the two elements (i. e.viewpoint of recognizing urban life as totality, and group planning theory), and that he definitely originated a new technique of Hosing Group. Next in the second chapter are analyzed two aspects of village life (i.e. small group system and mixture of social classes) and physical order in the village. Finally, picking out the proposed Plan for Hamlet designed by Unwin as a example of Village Green, I coucluded that main characters of this proposal are social mixture, creation of community consciousness and informal landscape design, and that small enclosed space with plenty of amenity is his main theme.
