Abstract
This paper, taking Nakaokutama Village (the detailed map in 1817 remains) and neighboring villages, Tozan-Minamikata, Iwai District in the area of Sendai clan as an example, clarifies the meaning of the formation of settlements in Tohoku area in the Edo period through an analysis of the number of dwelling places and the make-up of a family.
