Abstract
This paper describes the theoretical method of measuring the effect of condition based preventive maintenance on air-conditioning systems' reliability, and optimization of such preventive maintenance policy. A mathematical model is presented to analyze theoretically condition based preventive maintenance through intermittent maintenance inspections by maintenance personnel, or continuous inspections using an automated system, conducted to detect indications of failures to occur. Based on this mathematical model, the effects of condition based preventive maintenance on system reliability are quantitatively measured, and the optimal intervals between inspections are derived.
