Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the monthly and daily fluctuation of the number of pedestrians in Shijo shopping street on Central Kyoto and to find the factors influencing the fluctuation by the multiple regression analysis. One of the operable physical factors extracted for planners is sales floor area of department stores. By the model predicting the number of pedestrians, we calculate its number when the sales floor area of department stores in Kyoto Station and around the suburbs will increase. Though the market share of the department stores in Shijo shopping street may decrease and become about eighty percent of today's share, the number of pedestrians there may hardly decrease.
