Classical Winkler Model has often been used for static soil-structure interaction analyses. The model has some shortcomings because of the discontinuity of adjacent spring displacements. Pasternak Model, as an improved soil model, was applied for the analysis of an elastic continuum on a rigid base in a plane strain condition. The characteristics of Pasternak Model were evaluated by comparing the displacements of Pasternak Model with those of finite element analysis. A simple explicit formulation of the ground surface displacements was proposed in case of uniformly distributed vertical loads for practical use.
