This paper studies applicability of direct identification in closed loop to earthquake observations recorded in actively-controlled structures to integrate active control and system identification in the civil engineering field. An objective structure can be identified with no knowledge about the character of feedback control under an identifiability condition that the feedback gain changes at least once during an earthquake observation is recorded. By adding contro11ers' responses to input signals in the identification, damping ratios of the structure can be compared with the equivalent damping ratios of the controller-structural model. As a result, the additional damping ratios of controllers can be estimated, by using only a controlled observation record. Control effectiveness of each controller can be also understood when plural controllers are installed in the objective structure.
