The ductility index for "Shear Column" is prescribed by the Standard for Seismic Evaluation for Existing R/C Buildings as a value ranging from 1.00 to 1.27, being in narrow width. It is due to the fact that test data regarding post-peak behavior for this type of columns were insufficient in the past. It is intended in this paper to reassess the ductility index of "Shear Column" using the load-deflection relation including the post-peak region determined based on recent test results, and dynamic analysis. Values of the ductility index so reassessed range from about 0.8 to 1.6, being in width much broader than those prescribed by the current standard. This result is expected to increase the accuracy of evaluating the seismic performance of existing R/C buildings.
