This paper discusses a method to estimate the probability distribution of the residual deformation of a bi-linear single-degree-of-freedom system with isotropic hardening or kinematic hardening, which is more detailed compared to the methods assuming “random walk” proposed in the previous reports. In this paper, two parameters representing the difference between “random walk” and actual behaviors are utilized to estimate the standard deviation of residual deformations after earthquakes. Comparison with response analysis shows that the proposed method is more accurate in estimating the standard deviation of residual deformations, compared to the method assuming the “random walk” hypothesis.
