Abstract
In this paper we describe our analysis of the results from a forced vibration test on a reinforced concrete building model. In conventional vibration analyses, a uniform damping has been used for the whole structure. However, in the case of a concrete building possessing a strong interaction between itself and the soil on which it stands, it is especially necessary to consider individual damping factors for each structural part of the model. We have attempted, therefore, to investigate the dynamic properties of this building model by making use of equation of motion possessing different damping factors for each structural elements. From the diagrams of resonant curves, time history modes at each resonant frequency and phase angle curves, our calculation results showed a high degree of correspondence whith the results of our test. The evaluated internal viscous damping coefficients for the concrete and for the soil were respectively 0.00064 sec and 0.0048 sec. Accordingly, we were able to confirm the rightness of equation of motion possessing different damping factors for each structural elements.
