Abstract
Nowadays a number of composite materials made from inorganic cementing materials like Normal Portland Cement and Gypsum are used in building materials. There studies are requested to find out the composite mechanism of these inorganic composite materials and to design new composite materials using the resources which utilization is socially demended. Then we have carried out some experiments and taken some considerations on inorganic composite materials. While the method to use Gypsum in building materials is some part of the theme, because Gypsum is a new resource which should be utilized effectively in Japan. The study is consist of some parts following this paper (part 1) and they are titled "Gypsum as The Matrix Phase in Composite Materials" "Particle Reinforcement" "Fiber Reinforcement" "Relations between Improved Properties of Particle or Fiber Reinforced Matrices and Structural Performances of Members" "Bond Mechanism between Reinforcing Bars and Inorganic Matrices" "Skelton Reinforcement" "Dispersion Strengthening". In this paper (part 1) experimental results on basic properties of Gypsum are reported and concluded as follows. Among Gypsum, II-anhydrite and α-calcium sulfate hemihydarte are suitable to be used as the matrix phase of composite materials by which form Gypsum is to be utilized in building materials.
