Abstract
An approach to the plastic design of multi-story frames is considered in this paper. The design method is attempted in the following way, (1) The patterns of plastic hinges in the ultimate state of frames are assumed to satisfy the weight compatible condition of the minimum weight design theorem. (2) If suitable potterns have been assumed, the relations may be established from which the plastic moments of the beams and columns can be calculated. This design procedure is shown in some examples and the method of estimating the frame deformations in such collapse mechanisms is discussed.
