The objectives of this study are to develop the elastic analysis of the framed shear walls by considering shear deformation of the beam-to-column connections, to investigate its effects on stresses and displacements of the framed shear walls in detail, and to discuss past studies on the elastic analysis of the framed shear walls in Fourier series. The plane stress analysis of the framed shear walls with symmetric cross sections was developed originally by Tsuboi in 1951. The elastic analysis of the framed shear wall subjected to the antisymmetric loads was carried out by using Airy's stress function in the wall panel and the elementary beam theory in the boundary frame. Tomii et al. assumed the beam-to-column connections as rigid bodies and introduced the shear deformation of the boundary frame in the elastic analysis of the framed shear walls. The following conclusions are obtained from this study. i) In calculating angular distortions of the framed shear walls, the shear deformation of the beam-to-column connections can be ignored. Also, the effects of those shear deformations on the stresses and displacements of the framed shear walls are very small. Therefore, the assumption of rigid body can be applied to the beam-to-column connections. ii) Shearing stresses per unit length on intermediate members of the continued framed shear walls are nearly equal to the mean shearing stresses per unit length on framed shear walls. iii) It may be recognized that the elastic analysis of the framed shear walls in Fourier series was established by Tomii and Hiraishi in 1976. It is important to take into consideration the shear deformations of beams and columns in order to introduce the pure shear deformation of the wall panel and satisfy the continuity condition of the deflections on the boundary between wall panel and frame.
