In this paper, design equations to estimate easily ultimate flexural strength of circular reinforced concrete columns are derived and proposed. The equations consider change of area of flexural compressive zone, amount of both compressive and tensile longitudinal reinforcement according to transition of neutral axis of the circular column section, development of concrete stress-strain characteristics owing to confinement by transverse reinforcement. The equations can estimate ultimate flexural strength of circular column sections with nearly equal accuracy to that by exact flexural analysis.
