About 85,000 dwellings were completely destroyed by the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. 96 condominiums (about 6,500 units) were completely destroyed and another 97 condominiums (about 6,400 units) were badly damaged by this disaster. But the condominium's damage was more light than other housing types. There is much damage in the condominiums constructed before 1971
