Abstract
In applying "Response and limit strength method" to seismic design, the design seismic load on surface strata is affected by the selected level of engineering bedrock, the measured and/or predicted shear wave velocity. In result, the required strength and response displacement of structure varied. This paper examined the effect of variations of design seismic load evaluation on required strength using a response spectrum method proposed by Miura et al., the notification methods, and SHAKE. Structural engineers must have an appropriate engineering judgment on setting soil model.
