Small diameter steel piles have been increasingly used to reduce the settlement of small buildings on soft ground. The evaluation of the load carrying performance is essential for these kinds of pile especially after the enforcement of "Quality Secure Law for Houses". A rapid load test by Falling Mass Method is developed in which a cushion is inserted between a hammer and the pile head to elongate the loading duration. A number of rapid load tests by Falling Mass Method are carried out to investigate the feasibility of the method. The test results show that a good agreement is obtained with the conventional static load tests.
