Abstract
It is the purpose of this study to clarify the development of snow cornice on buildings and the relationship between snow cornice and meteorological elements. Therefore we carried out field experiments with the model building and observation of snow cornice in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, Japan. The fol- lowing results were obtained. (1) Snow drifts in front of parapet have a great effect on the formation of snow cornice. (2) Snow cornice is formed by the heavy snowfall with wind speed exceeded 4m/s. (3) The wind direction during snowfall (over lOcm/day) is closely related to the formative place of snow cornices.
