LITERATURE SURVEY OF THE OFF NORTHERN SANRIKU (OFF HACHINOHE, AOMORI) EARTHQUAKE OF MARCH 9, 1931(Disaster)

Abstract

In the region of Northern off Sanriku, reoccurrence of repeating large earth-quakes such as the 1968 Tokachi-oki is expecting. In this region many damaging earthquakes have been occurred in the 20th Century. Among them the Off Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture, Earthquake of March 9, 1931 is the largest one and limited damage was reported. In this paper more detailed damages are surveyed through reconnaissance reports and newspaper articles at that time. Extension of damaged area and human casualties are newly revealed from newspaper articles.
