Abstract
In 2003 the Off Tokachi Earthquake of magunitude 8.0 occurred in the Southeastern region of Hokkaido. In the area along to the Kuriel and Japan Trenches huge interplate earthquakes have been occurred repeatedly. The former earthquakes were the Off Tokchi earthquakes of 1952 and 1843, and the Off Nemuro Earthquake of 1973 and 1894. In this paper, literature survey on the Off Nemuro Earthquake of 1894 was tried to find new damage data refering archived documents and newspaper articles. It is newly found that the damaged area was expanding to the region of Tokachi.
