In an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital, L_<Amax,Imin> and L_<Aeq,Imin> were measured. At the same time, the occurrence number of sounds with L_<Amax>≧80 dB were counted, and these sounds were identified. As a result, seventeen types of sounds of L_<Amax>≧80 dB were identified and most of sounds of L_<Amax>≧80 dB were found to originate from the staffs behaviors. Most of the trial improvements were successfully conducted to reduce the number of sounds of L_<Amax>≧80 dB.
