Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to capture the characteristics of elderly's living style by using bed and chair in public housing in Niigata. The main findings are as follows. 1) It's one of the reasons for elderly couples separate bedrooms that husband or wife using bed, and the elderly couples taking daily living space in different rooms is related to husband or wife takes chair-seat only. 2) Some problems are incurred from using bed and chair, for example, larger space is necessary when the chair-seat exists together with the floor-seat. The living spaces of husband and wife are separated from each other when one of them uses bed and chair only, etc. 3) For the single elderly, by using bed and chair, the place of dining and entertaining separate from the daily living phace, further, the daily living place is distributed in one room.
