Abstract

Hidaka district, Southern Hokkaido is known as high seismic area and had been damaged due to earthquakes of the 2003 Tokachi-oki, the 1982 Urakawa-oki, the 1952 Tokachioki and so on. As for these large earthquakes detailed damages can be traced through many reconnaissance reports. However other earthquakes which caused damage to this region are not surveyed in systematically. In this paper, 7 damaging earthquakes are investigated through newspaper articles and related documents and detailed damages are listed by local municipalities. Many unknown damages can be revealed.
