The first sheep barn with gambrel roof in Hokkaido was built around 1920 in Takikawa Sheep Farm by Department of Agriculture and Commerce. According to the plan by the government to increase the number of one million sheep, five Sheep Farms were established in Japan. In those sheep farms similar shape of sheep barns with gambrel roof were built from 1918 to 1924. However, all of them were demolished except in Takikawa and Tsukisamu. The books by Rokurou Iwanami, and Masayuki Okamoto described about the sheep barns with gambrel roof of Department Agriculture and Commerce.
