Our research group members mainly consisting of university researchers and students have done strenuous volunteer activities for the KAGUTENBOU to provide furniture fixing service for homes. The major factors of the human damage in the previous earthquakes were attributable to the building collapsing and furniture tipping. Fixing furniture is the minimum environmental improvement that has to be quickly undertaken against future major earthquakes.
This paper reports the questionnaire survey that we conducted on the residents’ awareness of and preparation for disasters, and the analysis of the survey result, the extracted issues and our activities to solve them.
