In order to realize high-rise reinforced concrete buildings over 50 stories, a new structural system called "HiRC" was developed, in which high strength concrete and steel bars were used. This paper presents the control of material properties, details of structural members and design criteria. High strength material tests and structural tests of beams, columns and beam-column joints were conducted under repeated lateral loads. Inelastic dynamic analysis were performed based on test results. The developed system was apllied to a 45 story residential building, completed in 1996.
