Abstract
Akita Prefecture, northern Japan, have more than ten large damaging earthquakes during the recent 120 years and the authors made literature surveys on major four events. In this paper, Akita Futatsui earthquake of 1955 (M=5.9) was investigated. This local earthquake caused 4 injuries and damage to houses and infrastructures in Futatsui inland forestry town in northern prefecture. Through the literature survey on documents at that time, detailed damage was clarified. We believe that the experience of this event can be utilized to future disaster prevention for not only this area but also the other areas.
