Abstract
The waterworks was damaged in many areas stricken with the Great East Japan Earthquake. Securing water was difficult for the residents in disaster-stricken areas. In the case of water supply blockage, river water could have been used for water closet but few residents used river water. The City of Sendai now suggests the use of river water for water closet at the time of water supply stoppage. In this research, the accessibility of water at the UMEDA River was surveyed. Environmental conditions at the riverside accessible to water should be improved for securing water at the time of emergency.
