Abstract
This paper illustrates barriers and performance requirement of the post-seismic continuous usability of buildings such as city hall, school, gymnasium, and multistory residence. First, the authors gathered information related to the barriers to continuous usability of buildings which were damaged by the 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake.
Then, using a flowchart, each damage situation was analyzed into several OK/NG patterns for the comprehensive barrier classification. Based on the result of the analysis and prescription of the related design codes, the framework of performance requirement to secure post-seismic continuous usability was investigated. The proposed framework includes several performance levels which are associated with damage limit states to be tolerated in foundation, main structures and nonstructural systems.
