This paper describes and evaluates an action research project in a Japanese provincial town. It consists of two phases: first, we realized a public exhibition of design proposals to contribute to urban regeneration. Second, we received a commission to implement some of the ideas proposed in the exhibition, specifically the conversion of a warehouse into a community center. This paper shows the whole process, from the fact-finding phase to the project implementation as a way of introduce action research in the field of architectural design.
