Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have entered wide use in recent years for various purposes. The need to inspect and survey high-rise buildings and other structures is expected to drive growth in the use of UAVs. However, achieving widespread use of UAVs for structural inspections will require not just determining the required performance and settings for UAV units and cameras, but efforts to promote the sharing of basic drone inspection knowhow. This paper presents the results of our testing to establish ideal drone operating and image-capturing methods for structural inspections and surveys.
