Abstract

This study is aim to clarify distribution and facade characteristics of Machiya which has NOBORIBARI and SODEKABE in the former TONAMI county, TOYAMA prefecture. The results are as follows; 1) We extracted 649 buildings as Machiya. 2) NOBORIHARI and SODEKABE can be seen in the type of Machiya which has low hight of the second floor. The number is 110. 3) We classified them in 8 types. 4) There’s wooden eaves and latticework as common design other than NOBORIBARI and SODEKABE. On the other hand, there’s differences of characteristics on the design of SODEKABE and wooden eaves for each towns.
