For improving the townscape in the historical areas, roads are also important factors. Nagano city has realized the creation of landscape road projects from 2003 to 2021 in the area of Zenkoji temple. This paper has explored how to decide the road design for the historical area through documentary surveys and interview surveys. Through the eight landscape road projects, flagstone pavement was employed as a design code in the area of Zenkoji temple. Furthermore, in each feature which has traffic volume or tourist volume, the structure and design in the roads are different.
