This paper discusses the reduction of heat loss from steam pipes in a tunnel of district heating and cooling. In the tunnel constructed in the 1970s, insulation material and support of pipes were improved to reduce heat loss. The effect is confirmed by field measurement and CFD simulation. In the new tunnel completed in 2020, temperature distribution is simulated and radiative heat exchange between hot pipes and cool pipes is examined.
