In Japan, there is an urgency to reconstruct old city halls which do not meet the current standard of an earthquake-resistant structure. With this, we can look over solutions to the problems of depopulation in city centers. This study attempts to reveal the trend of city hall reconstruction projects considering urban area planning to discuss methods of public facility redevelopment contributing to urban regeneration. First, we assess the characteristics of reconstructed city halls. Then, we focus on relocation projects to analyze changes in location and structure. Finally, we categorize the relocated city halls into three groups based on their characteristics.
