Abstract

This study focuses on the vacant house demolition assistance system that designates a countermeasure district. The status of the system is summarized, and the future of the vacant house demolition assistance system with designated a countermeasure district is discussed. About half of the municipalities in Japan have a vacant house demolition assistance program, and about 10% of them have designated a countermeasure district. Furthermore, only a few have designated areas specifically linked to urban planning. We are thinking that it will be important in the future to link subsidies to urban planning, rather than to randomly provide subsidies.
