LITERATURE SURVEY ON DAMAGE DUE TO THE 1952 YOSHINO EARTHQUAKE

Abstract

The authors are continuing literature surveys on damaging earthquakes affected to the Kinki district and in the previous paper, the 1899 Kii-Yamato earthquake was picked up. This earthquake had rather deep focal depth and moderate damage in wider areas of Kinki district was pointed out. In this paper, the same type 1952 Yoshino earthquake was focused. Detailed damage was elucidated from the reports and newspaper articles at that time. These data were sorted by municipalities in table and mapped. Building damage were limited but many human casualties were found in wide area and their causes were also discussed.
