Nishiya Purification Plant, built in 1915, supplies tap water to the urban critical area including Minato Mirai. Nishiya Purification Plant is currently undergoing renovation work to make the facility earthquake-proof and increase its treatment capacity. The six brick roof buildings remaining from the plant’s founding are nationally registered tangible cultural properties, but as they are difficult to preserve in their original locations, they will be earthquake-proofed and relocated. In order to plan the earthquake-proofing and relocation, it was necessary to understand the building materials, structure, construction methods and techniques, so the results of a building survey were reported here.
