This paper focuses on characteristics of architectural techniques employed in the construction of the Sakakibara Family Residence in Yuza-cho, Yamagata Prefecture. The farmhouse built in the third year of Genroku Period (1703) is one of the oldest extant residences in the prefecture. Surveys were made while the structure was undergoing restoration, involving reconstruction of lost parts. Details of the original part of the structure built in the early 18th century and the guestroom rebuilt in the first half of the 19th century were compared, to reveal the development of architectural techniques used in residential architecture in the Edo Era.
