Abstract
This paper is about the current National Curriculum Standards reform and its relation to teaching geography at secondary schools. The New National Curriculum Standards are often criticized because they established a five-day a week school system which has reduced the standard annual number of school hours. Geography teaching hours have also been reduced, so it is no longer possible to cover the old curriculum. The main role of education is becoming to build the foundations of lifelong learning. In geography classes at junior high schools, students will be encouraged to learn how to approach topics and discover geographical characteristics. A task-based study approach is being introduced in geography classes at senior high schools.
