Abstract
Main purpose of this report is to clear the Competition about Rail and Bus in Modernization of Japan in case of the local metropolitan area. We have some geographical articles about the transport, but we have scarcely ones about the bus or the competition between transports until now. Rail was extended since the early Meiji era. But bus was much extended after 1920’s, and feeble railway or tram was closed through 1930’s. So in the local metropolitan area, bus had an advantage over Rail gradually between 1910∼30’s.
