Abstract

This study aims to explain the strategic cooperative relationships between the locality of the glove-related industry in eastern Kagawa and its foreign operations. This industry is a representative local industry in Kagawa with a  domestic share of 90 percent. It has targeted both the dometic and foreign market with an increasing emphasis on the former due to the global competition. Leading firms have actively gone abroad for production and sales. The main factors for the leader in Japan are the existence of a highly-skilled workforce and an innovative environment. Currently, the roles of the locality and its relations with foreign operations are reexamined to cope with the changing glocal environment.
