Abstract

In England, the academic geography has been strong influential discipline to geography education. According to these influence, key concepts in geography education thought have been proposed after 1960’s paradigm change on academic geography/geography education. The latest National Curriculum Geography 2008 proposes 7 key concepts clearly, but region is never key concept. This absence of region as key concept is contrastive to Japanese geography education. Region has altered to place/space/scale. In order to interpret this change, we, Japanese geography educator, have to dialogue with academic geographer around current concepts of region/place/space/scale.
