Abstract

The purpose of this research is to conduct statistical analysis on historical geographies of applicants for enlistment in the Imperial Japanese Navy from 1897 to 1921 when the number of enlisted soldiers rapidly increased like “boom” in a short time period. The regional differences of the applicants were analysed based on a conept of Histroical GIS. The resutls revealed spatial temporal changes in applicants and the changes were related to political ans social changes as well as economic conditions. The geographies of applicants for enlistment were integrated into regional dynamics at the macro scale in the Modern era.
