Abstract
Fluvial landform system in the Central Kanto Plain is quite complex. Because the two major rivers, the River Ara and River Tone, have repeated not only natural channel migration, but also artificial alternation of the river course. In addition this area is characterized by the change of the channel form from braided to meandering, which correlates with changes of bed material size and flow strength and pattern. These geomorphological conditions affect flood disaster in this region. This presentation mentions about the geomorphological conditions, the flood disaster and traditional disaster prevention systems in the Central Kanto Plain.
