Abstract
the kreitmann collection of the high japanology institute, college de france, paris, contains three topographic maps which were surveyed and drawn in the grand military camp exercises held in narashinohara and shimoshidzu, chiba prefecture, near tokyo ; map of narashinohara and its environs at 1:10,000 in 1875, map of naarashinohara and its environs at 1:20,000 in 1876 and the photography of the map of shimoshidzu and its environs at 1:20,000 in 1877, printed in the next years respectively.
these maps were the first western style modern topographic maps drawn under the direction of french officers for the future independent development in japan.
